By the way, I'm only counting 79 here. Looks like we're missing Leon Sales and Regan Smith.

I gave Sales and Smith both 0. I just forgot to list them for some reason. And I completely skipped over Emanuel Zervakis, who I gave 8 points. I might throw him in with the IndyCar drivers. I've already gone through every IndyCar winner (except the non-Indy 500 winners from the 1900s/1910s who only won races in seasons that didn't count for points).

I believe Burdick (and later Ross's) disappearances were largely due to the unsustainable nature of commuting from Nebraska (and Canada!) to the southeast.

My model hilariously thinks that Joe Eubanks is better than Bobby Labonte.

Herb took over Donald's car after his own blew up, and won the race in it. At the time, relief drivers shared points, so it kept his slim title hopes alive. But I will give Donald some credit for at least being in a position to inherit the lead. I can't imagine that happening with a teammate as bad as say Slick Smith.

I knew relief drivers scored points in AAA and USAC but I didn't know they did in NASCAR also.

How does your model work? I also have some dubious people over Bobby Labonte in mind, especially Cole Whitt, Austin Cameron, Ryan Sieg, A.J. Allmendinger, and Robby Gordon.

It averages win percentage, top five percentage, top ten percentage, lead lap percentage, pole percentage and beat percentage. It's pretty good at comparing similar drivers from the same era, but it's heavily biased towards factory drivers from the 50's-70's. I'd like to add more factors to even out that bias, but it's kinda difficult to find things that can be applied to every year.
